Arrive to San Miguel, enjoying the rugged countryside that is typical of Mexico's central highlands along the way. We'll gather for a cocktail reception and discuss our plans for the week. Dinner at one of San Miguel's most popular restaurants.

day 2  Discovering a Colonial Gem

Enjoy a guided walking tour of San Miguel, known as "The Forge of Independence" for the important role it played in Mexico's independence from Spain. We'll visit colonial churches, wander past 400-year-old homes and get a feel for how San Miguel manages to be both a vibrant contemporary Mexican town and a true colonial gem. After breaking for churros and hot chocolate we’ll head to the local market to peruse the stalls piled high with tropical fruits, fresh vegetables, chiles, herbs, and flowers. Then we’ll head back to the house to delve into the secrets of the traditional Mexican kitchen with a cooking class and late lunch.

day 3Ceramics & Chile Rellenos

Visit the ceramic factories of Dolores Hidalgo before lunch at Vicente’s—famous for its carnitas Afternoon cooking class featuring chiles rellenos. Prepare traditional cheese-stuffed Poblano peppers, as well as the country's famed Chile en Nogada.

day 3  Ghost Towns

Day trip to Pozos with a hike through the deserted ruins of the once famous silver mining town. Lunch at a local restaurant. Return for a cooking class featuring Naturally Healthy Mexican cuisine, recipes from Kris's cookbook, "Mexican Light."

Free morning to schedule a massage or explore the town. The afternoon features a class on moles. We’ll learn how to make the traditional black mole, as well as green mole, and then incorporate them into a fabulous dinner, starting with tortilla soup.

After breakfast we’re off to Guanajuato, an historic jewel one hour from San Miguel. This
colonial town features underground streets, colorful shops, and houses climbing up the steep hillsides. We’ll lunch on specialties from the Bajio. Free evening to explore the town's varied restaurants and nightclubs.

Enjoy a guided tour of San Miguel's renown mask museum, followed by a visit to local artisan workshops. San Miguel is famous for its tin ware, paper maché, wrought iron, and silver. An afternoon cooking class and lunch featuring a fusion menu. Learn how to take the best of traditional Mexican cuisine and transform it into new, inspiring dishes. We'll spend our last evening together at the award winning Rosewood Restaurant.

After breakfast return to your airport of choice or another destination in Mexico.

*Our San Miguel culinary tour price includes 7 nights accommodations at either Susurro B&B or a private villa (depending on group size), all ground transportation after arriving in San Miguel, all group activities, Mexican cooking classes, and all meals specified in the itinerary.
